Product Overview
The Zebra DS2208 is the corded 2D scanner most Indian businesses should be buying today. It is an area imager, so it reads every common 1D barcode and every common 2D code β QR, DataMatrix, PDF417, Aztec β from paper, from a product label, and from a mobile phone screen. It is the natural successor to the LS2208 laser, in the same familiar handheld shape, at a price that is no longer a stretch for a normal shop counter.
The reason to move to 2D in India is straightforward: too much of daily business now arrives as a code on glass. UPI payment QR, digital coupons and loyalty codes, e-way bill and delivery QR, marketplace return labels, DigiLocker documents, PDF417 on driving licences, and 2D codes on pharmaceutical packs. A laser scanner cannot read any of them. The DS2208 handles all of it plus your existing EAN and Code 128 barcodes, is IP52 sealed, survives 1.5 m drops and 250 tumbles, and carries a five-year warranty.

Why Choose This Product?
Compared with the LS2208 laser, the DS2208 costs a little more and its motion tolerance on a fast checkout swipe is not dramatically different. What it adds is an entire category of code you currently cannot read at all. If your counter takes UPI payments, handles e-way bills, or expects to scan anything off a customer's phone, this is not an upgrade β it is the minimum viable scanner. If you are certain you will only ever scan printed 1D barcodes, the LS2208 is still fine and slightly cheaper.
Compared with the cordless DS2278, the DS2208 is lighter, has no battery to charge or replace, and no cradle to buy. Buy corded when the scanner stays at a fixed counter. Buy cordless when the operator has to walk to the goods. The DS2208 is also the right pick over cheap unbranded 2D scanners because of decode quality on damaged, low-contrast and dimly lit barcodes, and because Zebra's five-year warranty and Indian service network exist when it eventually fails.
Applications
Retail, supermarket and pharmacy billing
Scan product EAN codes and, on the same device, customer UPI QR codes, coupons and loyalty codes off a phone screen without switching hardware.
Logistics, courier and e-commerce despatch
Read shipping labels, manifest QR codes and marketplace return labels, including PDF417 blocks that a 1D scanner cannot decode.
Pharmaceutical and healthcare
2D DataMatrix codes on medicine packs, sample tubes and patient wristbands, at close range in the varying light of a ward or dispensary.
Manufacturing and inventory control
Small DataMatrix codes on components and PCBs, plus 1D carton and rack labels, all from one handheld unit connected to your ERP.
What's Included in the Box
Standard pack: the unit plus its interface cable. Contents vary by part number, so confirm the pack list on WhatsApp before ordering if a specific accessory matters.
How to Use
- Push the cable into the socket in the base of the scanner until it clicks, then plug the USB end into your PC.
- Wait for the power-up beep. It appears as a keyboard, so no driver is required for normal use.
- Open Notepad and scan a printed barcode and a QR code to confirm both read correctly.
- To add an Enter key after each scan, or to change interface, scan the appropriate setup barcode from the DS2208 quick start guide or use Zebra's free 123Scan utility.
- For hands-free counter use, drop the scanner into a presentation stand β it switches to continuous scanning and reads items swiped past it.
