Product Overview

The Honeywell HH490 is a handheld 2D area-imaging scanner for counters and stockrooms that need to read printed barcodes and 2D codes quickly and continuously. It runs a 1 GHz MCU with a 1 megapixel global shutter camera, and it holds its read rate on codes that are damaged, partially covered or badly printed — the labels you actually get in a working Indian store, not the clean ones on a datasheet. It reads 1D, PDF417, 2D and DotCode, so QR codes and Data Matrix are covered.

The HH490 is aimed at general commercial use: supermarket and mall billing, hotel and hospital registration desks, school and college ID checks, membership counters and payment desks. Being a 2D imager it reads codes shown on a phone screen, which matters the moment you accept digital coupons or scan a delivery partner's pickup code. It is fully backward compatible with existing HH400 accessories, so stands and cables carry over. On a standard 13 mil retail barcode it reads out to 430 mm.

How to Use

1. Plug the interface cable into the base of the HH490 until it clicks, then connect it to your PC or POS terminal.
2. Let it power up. Over USB it is recognised as a keyboard, so no driver is needed for most billing software.
3. Click into the barcode field of your billing or registration software so the cursor is active.
4. Aim the illumination at the code and press the trigger. Hold small Data Matrix codes closer, around 45–185 mm; retail barcodes read out to 430 mm.
5. To change symbologies, prefix or suffix, run Honeywell EZ Config or scan the setup barcodes in the HH490 user guide.
