Product Overview

The Honeywell Orbit HF680 is a hands-free presentation scanner that sits on the counter and reads a barcode the moment you hold an item in front of it. It is a 2D area imager built around a megapixel sensor and a 1 GHz processor, so it reads printed 1D barcodes, PDF417 and 2D codes including QR — and it reads them off LCD and OLED phone screens as well as off paper. The scanning head tilts up and down so you can set the angle to suit your counter height and product sizes.

This is the shape most Indian retail counters actually want. The cashier keeps both hands free for bagging and cash, the scanner never gets dropped because it never leaves the counter, and the recessed LED illumination lights the barcode without shining into the customer's eyes. A presentation scanner is measurably faster than a handheld once a queue forms, because the cashier never picks up or puts down a device — the item passes the window and the code is in. Where it is the wrong choice: the working distance is short. How to Use

1. Place the HF680 on the counter with the round scan window facing the customer side, and tilt the head to a comfortable angle.
2. Connect the USB or RS-232 cable to the scanner and then to your billing PC or POS terminal.
3. Click into the barcode field in your billing software so the cursor sits there.
4. Hold the item or the phone screen in front of the window, within about 20 cm. A beep confirms the read.
5. To change suffix, prefix or symbologies, use Honeywell EZConfig or scan the setup barcodes from the HF680 user guide.
