Product Overview

The Zebra ZT231 is a 4-inch industrial label printer built for businesses that print labels all day. Part number ZT23143 is the 300 dpi version β€” 12 dots per millimetre instead of the usual 8 β€” so small text, dense 2D codes and tiny component labels stay sharp where a 203 dpi printer would blur them. It prints by thermal transfer (with ribbon) or direct thermal, sits in a metal frame, and has a 4.3-inch colour touchscreen that reports status in plain words.

In Indian operations the ZT231 goes where a desktop printer runs out of stamina β€” a warehouse printing thousands of carton labels a shift, a pharma or electronics unit printing batch and serial labels, a 3PL printing marketplace shipping labels. Choose the 300 dpi version when your label is physically small, when it carries a QR or DataMatrix code a scanner has to read first time, or when a brand owner or regulator wants crisp small print.

  • 300 dpi (12 dots/mm) printhead β€” resolves barcode modules down to 3.3 mil, so small DataMatrix and QR codes stay readable
  • Thermal transfer and direct thermal in one machine
  • Print speed programmable from 2 to 8 ips (51 to 203 mm/s) at 300 dpi

  • Metal frame with a bi-fold media door for light industrial use
  • Standard USB 2.0, RS-232 serial, 10/100 Ethernet, USB Host and Bluetooth Low Energy

Why Choose This Product?

Higher resolution is not automatically better. At 300 dpi this printer runs slower than the 203 dpi ZT231 β€” 8 ips against 12 ips β€” and 300 dpi supplies are a slightly narrower market in India. If your labels are plain 4x6 in. shipping labels with a big Code 128, buy the 203 dpi version instead. Buy 300 dpi when the label is small, carries fine print, or has a 2D code that must scan first time on a poorly lit dock.

What you are really paying for over a desktop printer is duty cycle and serviceability: metal frame, 8-inch rolls so operators reload less often, a touchscreen that reports faults in words, and standard Ethernet so the printer sits on your network rather than tethered to one PC. Media handling and RFID can be added in the field later. Zebra service and spares are widely available across India, which matters more than the spec sheet by year three.

Applications

Warehouse and 3PL despatch labelling

Marketplace shipping labels, carton labels and pallet labels printed from your WMS over Ethernet, with 8-inch rolls cutting reload stops in a peak-season shift.

Pharma, electronics and small-component labelling

Small vial, strip, PCB and component labels where batch number, expiry and a DataMatrix code all have to fit in a few square centimetres.

Manufacturing and asset tagging

Resin ribbon on synthetic stock gives asset tags, machine tags and bin labels that survive oil and handling on an Indian shop floor.

Retail and FMCG back-office labelling

Shelf-edge labels, MRP and price labels and inward GRN labels, printed in batches from your billing or ERP software.

What's Included in the Box

Standard pack: the unit plus its interface cable. Contents vary by part number, so confirm the pack list on WhatsApp before ordering if a specific accessory matters.

How to Use

  1. Place the printer on a flat surface, connect power and switch on. Wait for the touchscreen to reach the Idle screen.
  2. Open the bi-fold media door, load your label roll and, for thermal transfer, load ribbon on the supply and take-up spindles with the coated side facing out.
  3. Close the door and run Calibrate from the touchscreen so the printer learns your label length and gap.
  4. Connect USB or Ethernet, install the Zebra driver, and set 300 dpi in both the driver and your label software.
  5. Print a test label, scan it, then adjust darkness and speed until it reads first time every time.
