Key Features of MQ-135 GAS SENSOR
- Multi-Gas Detection: Senses a broad spectrum of harmful gases including ammonia, carbon dioxide, benzene, alcohol, nitrogen oxides, and smoke in a single compact sensor.
- Simple Analog Output: Provides a straightforward analog voltage output that increases with gas concentration - easily read by any microcontroller's ADC pin without complex communication protocols.
- High Sensitivity & Fast Response: The tin dioxide (SnO2) sensing element offers rapid response and recovery times, enabling real-time air quality monitoring with reliable detection accuracy.
- Wide Detection Range: Capable of detecting gas concentrations from 10 ppm to 1000 ppm, suitable for both indoor air quality monitoring and industrial hazard detection.
- Low Cost, High Value: One of the most affordable and widely documented gas sensors available - backed by extensive community libraries, tutorials, and reference designs.
- Universal Microcontroller Compatibility: Works seamlessly with Arduino Uno/Nano/Mega, ESP32, ESP8266, Raspberry Pi (with external ADC like ADS1115), STM32, and virtually any 5V-compatible development board.
Perfect For
- Indoor Air Quality Monitor: Build a real-time air quality index (AQI) display using the MQ-135 with an Arduino and OLED/LCD screen. Monitor CO2, ammonia, and smoke levels in your home, office, or classroom and trigger alerts when air quality degrades.
- Smart Ventilation System: Integrate the MQ-135 with a
MQ-135 Gas Sensor - Air Quality Detection for NH3, NOx, CO2, Benzene & Smoke

Fast shipping across India with full technical support.
How the MQ-135 Works
The MQ-135 uses a tin dioxide (SnO2) semiconductor sensing element. In clean air, SnO2 has a relatively high electrical resistance. When target gases come into contact with the heated sensing surface, they react with adsorbed oxygen molecules, reducing the resistance of the SnO2 layer. This change in resistance is converted into an analog voltage signal through a simple voltage divider circuit with a load resistor. The higher the gas concentration, the lower the sensor resistance, and the higher the output voltage - which your microcontroller reads via an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) pin. A built-in heater coil maintains the sensing element at its optimal operating temperature (~200-300 degreesC) for consistent and accurate readings.
