How It Works
The IR Proximity Sensor operates on the principle of infrared light reflection. The onboard IR LED continuously emits infrared light (invisible to the human eye at 940 nm). When an object comes within the detection range, the infrared light bounces off the object's surface and is picked up by the photodiode receiver. The LM393 comparator then processes this signal against a threshold set by the potentiometer - if the reflected signal is strong enough (object is close enough), the output pin goes LOW (active low), and the detection LED illuminates. When the object moves away, the output returns to HIGH. This simple yet effective mechanism makes the sensor perfect for presence detection, obstacle avoidance, and counting applications.
