The Feetech STS3215 (C001) is a 7.4V smart bus servo made for multi-joint robots such as robotic arms, humanoids and quadrupeds. Inside its compact dual-shaft body sits a coreless motor, a 1:345 metal gearbox and a 12-bit magnetic encoder, delivering up to 19.5 kg.cm of stall torque along with true 360° absolute angle sensing. It is the go-to servo for popular open-source arm builds like the SO-ARM100 and SO-ARM101.
Instead of a standard PWM signal, the STS3215 is driven over a half-duplex TTL serial bus. Every servo carries its own ID, so a whole chain of servos can share one data line and still be commanded one by one from a single serial port, which keeps wiring on multi-axis builds clean and simple. Each unit also sends back real-time data on position, speed, load, supply voltage, current and temperature.
Highlights
- Strong output: 19.5 kg.cm stall torque at 7.4V, produced by a coreless motor driving a 1:345 metal reduction gearbox.
- Absolute 360° sensing: 12-bit magnetic encoder giving 4096 counts per revolution, roughly 0.088° per step.
- Bus-based control: addressable half-duplex TTL UART, so many servos can be daisy-chained on one line.
- Live status reporting: returns position, speed, load, voltage, current and temperature readings.
- Four operating modes: position (servo), closed-loop speed, open-loop speed and step mode.
- Dual-shaft body: a main output shaft plus an auxiliary rear shaft for rigid, well-supported joints.
- Built to last: ball bearings, metal gearing and on-board over-voltage and over-temperature protection.
- Non-volatile settings: ID, angle limits and other parameters stay stored after power is removed.

Connection Guide
Transmit and receive share a single half-duplex data wire, so this servo cannot be run from an ordinary PWM servo output. Connect it through a half-duplex serial adapter or bus servo driver board (such as the Feetech FE-URT-1 USB adapter or a compatible driver), and control it from a PC, Arduino, ESP32, STM32 or Raspberry Pi. Use a power supply sized for the combined stall current of all servos on the bus.
Where It's Used
- Robot arms, including SO-ARM100 / SO-ARM101 builds
- Humanoid, hexapod and four-legged robots
- Pan-tilt mounts, camera gimbals and grippers
- Education, research and automation projects
