Key Features of ADXL335 Triple-Axis Accelerometer
- True 3-axis sensing: Simultaneously measures acceleration on X, Y, and Z for complete motion and tilt detection.
- Simple analog output: No complex communication protocol - just read three analog voltages with any microcontroller's ADC.
- Ultra-low power: Only 350 uA makes it perfect for battery-powered and wearable applications.
- Wide bandwidth: Up to 1,600 Hz on X/Y axes captures fast vibrations and impacts.
- Arduino & Raspberry Pi compatible: Plug directly into analog input pins; extensive community code and libraries available.
- Compact breakout board: On-board 3.3 V regulator and decoupling capacitors - ready to use out of the box.
Perfect For
- Tilt & Inclination Sensing: Detect the orientation of a platform, phone dock, or robotic arm joint by measuring the gravity vector across all three axes.
- Gesture-Controlled Robot: Mount the ADXL335 on a glove; tilt your hand to steer a robot car or drone in real time.
- Vibration Monitoring System: Attach to motors, bridges, or machinery to log vibration signatures and predict maintenance needs.
- Step Counter / Pedometer: Analyze periodic acceleration patterns while walking or running to count steps accurately.
- Self-Balancing Robot: Feed tilt data into a PID control
Pin Configuration

| GND | Ground |
| X-OUT | Analog voltage proportional to X-axis acceleration |
| Y-OUT | Analog voltage proportional to Y-axis acceleration |
| Z-OUT | Analog voltage proportional to Z-axis acceleration |
| ST (Self-Test) | Apply logic high to verify sensor functionality |
How It Works
The ADXL335 uses polysilicon surface-micromachined MEMS structures to detect acceleration. When force is applied along any axis, tiny internal capacitive plates shift, changing the capacitance. On-chip signal conditioning converts this capacitance change into a proportional analog voltage centered around half the supply voltage (1.65 V at 3.3 V). At 0 g the output sits at the midpoint; tilting or accelerating in the positive direction increases the voltage, while the negative direction decreases it. Simply read each axis with an ADC, map the voltage to g-force using the 300 mV/g sensitivity, and you have real-time acceleration data.
