Key Features of 30A ACS712 Current Sensor

  • Bidirectional +/-30A Sensing: Measures both AC and DC current in either direction with a linear analog output centered at VCC/2.
  • Hall-Effect Isolation: The ACS712 uses an internal Hall-effect element, providing galvanic isolation (2.1 kV RMS) between the high-current path and the low-voltage signal output - no optocouplers or transformers needed.
  • Ultra-Low Insertion Loss: 1.2 mOhm internal conductor resistance means negligible voltage drop and minimal heat generation even at full 30A load.
  • Analog Output - Easy to Read: Output voltage swings linearly around 2.5V; simply read with an ADC and apply the 66 mV/A sensitivity to calculate current.
  • Fast Response: 5 us output response time and 80 kHz bandwidth enable real-time current waveform capture, fault detection, and power-quality analysis.
  • Screw Terminal Current Path: Heavy-duty screw terminals accept thick wires for high-current connections - no soldering required for the power side.
  • Breadboard-Friendly Header: 3-pin 2.54 mm header (VCC, GND, OUT) plugs directly into breadboards or connects via standard jumper wires.
  • Onboard Power LED & Filter Cap: Power indicator LED confirms module is active; onboard filter capacitor smooths output noise.
  • Wide Temperature Range: Rated -40 degreesC to +85 degreesC for reliable operation in industrial, automotive, and outdoor environments.
  • Genuine ACS712 IC: Authentic Allegro MicroSystems ACS712ELCTR-30A-T - not a counterfeit or remarked chip

30A ACS712 Current Sensor Module

Measure AC and DC currents up to +/-30A with precision using the ACS712-based current sensor module from Tech Depot India, Bengaluru. This Hall-effect sensor provides isolated, low-noise analog output proportional to current flow - ideal for energy monitoring, motor control, overcurrent protection, and IoT power-tracking projects.

How It Works

  • Principle: Current flowing through the internal copper conductor generates a magnetic field detected by the integrated Hall-effect sensor. The IC converts this field into a proportional analog voltage.
  • Zero-Current Output: At 0A, the output sits at approximately 2.5V (VCC/2). Positive current increases the voltage; negative (reverse) current decreases it.
  • Conversion Formula: Current (A) = (Analog Voltage 2.5V) / 0.066 V/A. For a 10-bit ADC on a 5V Arduino: Current = ((ADC_Value x 5.0 / 1024) 2.5) / 0.066.
  • AC Measurement: For AC current, sample rapidly over one or more full cycles and compute the RMS value from the readings.
