How It Works
The TEC1-12715 operates on the Peltier effect - when DC current flows through the 127 bismuth telluride thermocouple pairs inside the module, heat is actively transferred from one ceramic face to the other. The cold side absorbs heat (cooling your target), while the hot side dissipates heat (requiring a heatsink and fan). The greater the current, the greater the cooling effect - up to the module's 15A maximum. Reversing the polarity reverses the hot and cold sides, making it equally useful for heating applications.
Important Usage Notes
- Heatsink is mandatory: The hot side MUST be attached to an adequate heatsink (with fan) to prevent thermal runaway and module damage
- Use thermal paste: Apply thermal compound between the Peltier module and both the heatsink and the object being cooled for optimal heat transfer
