How It Works
The pH electrode is an electrochemical sensor containing a glass membrane that generates a small voltage (typically +/-414 mV) proportional to the hydrogen ion concentration of the solution it is immersed in. This millivolt-level signal has extremely high source impedance, making it impossible to read directly with a standard microcontroller ADC. The included amplifier circuit board uses a high-input-impedance operational amplifier to buffer, amplify, and offset this signal into a 0-5V range that maps linearly to pH 0-14. You simply connect the board's analog output to an ADC pin, read the voltage, and apply a linear conversion formula (derived during calibration) to obtain the pH value.
