The Sonoff D1 is one of the easiest ways to add smart, app-controlled dimming to your existing lights — no full rewiring needed. Here's how to install and set it up, plus how to add Alexa and Google Home voice control.
What you'll need
- A Sonoff D1 WiFi dimmer
- Dimmable LED or incandescent lights (non-dimmable LEDs won't work)
- A 2.4 GHz WiFi network and the free eWeLink app
- A neutral wire at the fixture (the D1 requires neutral)
Step 1: Wire it in safely
Switch off the mains. Connect live (L), neutral (N) and the load output to the D1 as shown in its manual. Mains wiring should be done by a qualified electrician if you're not experienced.
Step 2: Pair with eWeLink
Power on, install the eWeLink app, create an account, tap add device, and follow the pairing flow over your 2.4 GHz WiFi. The D1 will appear as a dimmer you can slide from 1–100%.
Step 3: Add Alexa or Google Home
In the Alexa or Google Home app, add the eWeLink skill/service and link your account. You can then say “Alexa, set the living room lights to 40%” or “Hey Google, dim the lights.”
Optional: 433 MHz RF remote
The D1 also has a 433 MHz receiver, so you can pair an RF remote for offline control even when WiFi is down.
Troubleshooting
- Lights flicker: use a proper dimmable LED driver.
- Won't pair: make sure you're on 2.4 GHz WiFi, not 5 GHz.
- No dimming: confirm the bulb is dimmable and neutral is connected.
