Starting with Arduino or ESP32? Beyond the board itself, a handful of cheap components will let you build almost any beginner project. Here are the essentials every Indian maker's kit should have.
The must-have basics
- Jumper wires — connect everything without soldering. A mixed male/female jumper wire set is the first thing to buy.
- Breadboard — build and test circuits reusably. A 400-point solderless breadboard is perfect to start.
Your first components
- Servo motor — for moving parts and robotics. The SG90 micro servo is the classic beginner servo.
- Ultrasonic sensor — measure distance (obstacle-avoiding robots!). The HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor is a staple.
- Motor driver — run DC motors from your board. The L298N motor driver module powers robot wheels and more.
A simple first project
With a board, breadboard, jumper wires, an SG90 servo and an HC-SR04, you can build a distance-triggered servo — the “hello world” of robotics. Add an L298N and two motors and you've got a moving robot.
